(DBL, HBL, & ZRD)
MailCleaner offers Spamhaus Content-base blacklists as an option to the MailCleaner Virtual Appliance. This additional option increases the phishing and malware detection rate and reaction of our product.
Spamhaus Content-base blacklists (DBL, HBL, & ZRD) is a list of web sites that have appeared in unsolicited messages and not a list of message senders. Spamhaus Content-base blacklists has proven to be a highly-effective way to detect cracked websites that host malware, phishing or other malicious content.
The Spamhaus DBL list is a realtime database of domains with low reputations. MailCleaner use this DBL list to identify, classify or reject spam containing listed domains by scanning email message body contents for URIs.
What Are The Benefits?
As a MailCleaner option, Spamhaus Content-base blacklists Data Feeds offer higher performance for our clients through faster updates and resulting fresher data. Freshness matters since the threat behavior is often highly dynamic, so Data Feed users can expect higher detection rates and lower false negatives.
How Does It Work?
Websites seen in unsolicited messages tend to be more stable than the rapidly changing botnet IP addresses used to send the vast majority of them. Sender lists like Spamhaus SBL can be used in a first stage filter to help identify a majority of unsolicited messages, but Spamhaus Content-base blacklists can help find unsolicited messages in a second stage filter.
It also contains data from multiple sources that cover sites hosting malware or cracked sites and list of domain names with poor reputations.
The Spamhaus Project is an international nonprofit organization that tracks spam and related cyber threats such as phishing, malware and botnets, provides realtime actionable and highly accurate threat intelligence to the Internet’s major networks, corporations and security vendors, and works with law enforcement agencies to identify and pursue spam and malware sources worldwide.
Founded in 1998, Spamhaus is based in Geneva, Switzerland and London, UK and is run by a dedicated staff of 38 investigators, forensics specialists and network engineers located in 10 nations.
Spamhaus realtime threat and reputation blocklists currently protect over 3 Billion user mailboxes around the world and are responsible for blocking the vast majority of spam and malware sent out on the Internet. Spamhaus data is today used by the majority of the Internet’s ISPs, email service providers, corporations, universities, governments and military networks.
